I am a theatre maker, artist and researcher.
I work as Lecturer in Drama and Theatre Practice in the School of Drama, Music and Screen at the University of Hull. My research combines theatre and performance practice with print and online publications. My book, Meyerhold and the Cubists: Perspectives in Painting and Performance, was published by Intellect/University of Chicago Press in 2015.
As an artistic director, I am interested in the relationship between space, spectator and performer. I work primarily in alternative stagings (not end-on), and prefer immersive or experiential environments married with work on extant texts (particularly multi-lingual texts or texts in translation). My favourite production spaces are small and intimate. I often work with student actors and collaborators, and I enjoy the emphasis on process and exploration that creating theatre in an educational environment affords.
